Just Roots works to increase access to healthy, local food by connecting people, land, resources and know-how. As the largest provider of farm shares to SNAP-enrolled, low-income families in Massachusetts, Just Roots focuses on building replicable models through the creation of partnerships and gathering of data to create equity, community, and health. The Compost Coop, a worker-owned cooperative business, offers residential and commercial waste reduction and compostable hauling services in Franklin County, MA. In addition to expanding compost production, soil nutrient density, season extension capability and farm infrastructure, this grant support will allow the organizations to formalize their innovative partnership while scaling a worker-owner program that supports returning citizens who are seeking business opportunities in food waste management in this rural community.
